Brown pelicans were always around whenever I went out to see shore birds in Texas. Back in the 70s, they were listed as endangered in the United States.
I love hot springs (onsen). But so do whooper swans and many other wildlife in Japan. Japan is volcanic, but at the same time, the volcanic earth provides hot springs that help wildlife survive frigid winters 😀
A male Yezo Ural Owl (Strix uralensis japonica) grooms his female partner in a tree hollow in Hokkaido, Japan. It is said that grooming (preening) is one of the ways for owls to form stronger bonds.
