I was looking through my pictures from last year, and found out that this image was not posted on my website. The picture is from my trip to Colorado last year – We went for a hike in East Inlet Trail in Rocky Mountain National Park in mid-October.
A storm started rolling in, and frequent gusts of wind were rocking trees back and forth. There were many trees damaged by pine beetles along the trail, and we started hearing lots of creaking sounds coming out of those trees.
The wind got stronger so quickly. We saw several tall trees knocked down near us, making loud cracking sounds. It was unpredictable which tree would come down next! Fortunately we were almost at the parking lot where no more falling trees threatened us.
We were surprised how vulnerable those majestic pine trees had become after the beetle infestation.
