The wave pattern on the sand was softly lit as the sun sets in Bolivar Peninsula in Texas. I love walking on the beach. I enjoy hearing the songs of sea gulls and the sound of waves. But on the day when I took this picture at one of my favorite shores, my sense was all focused on the patterns engraved by the waves on the sand. They seemed endless, the ridges were lit by the sunset and it was beautiful. The next day when I revisited the shore. I wanted to take more pictures of the patterns but it was all washed out. Photo Of The Day: Yawning Yellow Crowned Night Heron
One of the things I’ve learned from many wildlife is that how patient you have to be to be able to eat for the day. I was at Brazos Bend State Park in Texas several years ago and was spending probably about 2 hours with this Yellow Crowned Night Heron. It was early summer in Texas, and it was very humid and hot at the swampy park. During those 2 hours, mostly he was waiting for prey to come close to him, standing like a statue. Waiting, waiting, waiting … then yawned. Probably bored? But his patience paid off. At the end he caught a frog for his dinner. Photo Of The Day: Shining like a Christmas Tree – Bald Cypress
I have just seen a picture of beautiful Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree lit up in New York City, and I thought about this picture of shining bald cypress trees in Caddo Lake, Texas. Specifically, the shining veils hanging from the branches were Spanish Moss. After the sunrise, they reflected the strong morning light and decorated the bald cypress like a Christmas tree 🙂 Click image or go to the link below for larger image: http://www.ellieteramoto.com/photo/spanish-moss-in-the-morning-sun-texas/ Thank you for viewing! Photo Of The Day: Dancing Great Egret in Flowery Tree
One of the things I love about birds is that they are seriously fascinating dancers. Here is one of my favorite pictures of dancing birds. When I visited High Island, Texas in the early spring I saw this great egret started dancing in a flowery tree. Photo Of The Day: Wave Patterns – Ocean’s drawing
Sometimes the ocean is a fantastic artist. One day I walked into seemingly endless wave patterns left by the ocean on a sandy beach at a shorebird sanctuary in Bolivar Peninsula, Texas. I felt like I was lucky to be able to enjoy the ocean’s drawing – because the next day, the patterns were completely gone. The light and shadow created interesting contrast, so I decided to process the image in black and white. Photo Of The Day: A Beautiful Brown Pelican
After spending about 2 hours alone with shy brown pelicans at a bay in Ingleside, Texas, several came very close to me. One of them kept looking at my camera lens and gave me a chance to take her beautiful portrait photo. Photo Of The Day: A Great Egret and His Giant Forest of Water Plants
About a 3-foot-tall great egret looked very small in front of a giant forest of water plants in Aransas National Wildlife Refuge in Texas. For a while I imagined how his world in the forest would look like. Photo Of The Day: A Turtle On A Long Journey
How many times have you seen a turtle walking on a road? In Texas, I quite often encounter them. From some distant away, they look like mysterious moving rocks. From a close distance, they’ll give you a cute turtle look. This is a picture of a turtle that I came across a couple of years ago. He was on a long journey. Photo Of The Day: Life of Yuccas in White Sands, New Mexico
I visited White Sands National Monument in New Mexico a couple of years ago. It was winter and the color of the sand made me feel like I am in the middle of snowy hills. One of my most memorable scenes from the desert was to meet these yuccas – some were standing, some were half buried, and some were dying in the white sands. Photo Of The Day: A Forest Of Bald Cypress Trees In Caddo Lake, Texas
The green leaves of bald cypress trees popped out of gray spanish moss, making the leaves look like splashes of green paint. One of my most favorite trees in the wild is bald cypress. About a 3 hour drive to the east from Dallas, Texas, there is a bald cypress heaven – one of the largest bald cypress forests in the world. Canoeing through small canals to meet these giant masters of the forest was an extraordinary experience.
